ThinkorSwim on Multiple Monitors

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could recommend any application that can help restore TOS window positioning when restarting a windows 10 machine. I have 4 monitors. On my 4th monitor is where I have a few nicely positioned windows. For some reason, TOS fails to restore the windows on that monitor, even after saving the workspace. I believe TOS runs java so windows applications for grids like PowerToys/fanzy zones don't work. Fanzy zones lets you grab application windows and quick drop them into a sized grid. Unfortunately, TOS just doesn't work. I have also tried another program called PersistentWindows to restore the windows to the correct location, but it doesn't work after restarting windows.

I have read at least one other post, where people claim that TOS only supports 3 monitors but who knows.

I need to preface this with: while my rigs have multi-monitors; my dedicated trading instance does not have ToS open across all screens. You want to keep your trading space, lean and mean.
The more charts, detached widgets, watchlists that you have opened, the more lag, you will see.

On to your question:
I started out w/ four non-4k monitors, and the Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 had no problem.
Upgraded to three non-4k monitors and one 4k monitor, which is when I first started having my ToS workspace not loading perfectly.

The graphics card lag was such that ToS belatedly became aware of the 4k monitor and thus loaded its elements incorrectly.

Current setup:
I currently have three 4k monitors and two non-4k plus laptop.

One rig runs one ToS instance with the Nvidia card and one 4k monitor and is used just for trade entry/exit and monitoring.

The other rig runs two ToS instances; upgraded to ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 and I changed the display order, with one 4k monitor and 2 non.

The laptop has the 3rd 4k monitor.

All 3 rigs are connected to same mouse, keyboard and peripherals through kvm and mouse without boarders.

ToS platform is a single-threaded java-derived application. As such, it cannot take advantage of high-speed, high-memory rigs. There is no need for expensive upgrades.
ToS has very minimal computer requirements.

My issues were that my graphics card hardware was not optimal for my monitor hardware, and that was presenting as a ToS problem. Getting hardware components to play nicely with each other. Resolved the issues.

My setup is extreme. It is not required for most retail traders to invest successfully.
Hope this helps.

tos will support whatever amount of monitors you can setup in your Operating system, i used to have it running on a 10yr old computer with 2 video cards and six 2k monitors with MST hub support which AMD does a better job of than Nvidia over the years as nvida just few years back just barely started offering better MST support but AMD still leads especially if using a MST hub. However, Over the years too many monitors and not enough eyes, i find 4 monitors to be better suited for my needs and went back to just 1 video card and four 2k monitors with MST. Never had issues with TOS and multi monitors once it was properly setup in the OS. A bit of lag inside TOS but thats cause tos is laggy in general, but i noticed setting data to 1 second delay fixed alot of the lag and i can live with a 1 second delay, im not as fast as those algos and TOS uses PFOF anyways.

My setup has 3 PCs with 3 different Operating Systems, 4 monitors, real-time tos data.

1) After arranging my Charts/Flexible Grid charts a ' Save grid as... ' is performed:

This Save as... procedure saves all Grids, Studies, Style Settings and Zoom settings.

Note: In the image a keyboard pipe " | " is used to easily distinguish what is on multiple Chart grid layouts.
The ' _ default ' layout is a basic chart (no studies, etc.) that I use as a "scratch" chart to quickly begin a new Chart layout or for testing with my settings I always use.
Switching from one chart layout to another is quick and easy.

2) A ' Save Workspace as... ' is then performed saving all open Charts and arrangements.

With these 2 steps I have never had an issue as you described.

For me, using Save Workspace and pointing the Startup to that filename fixed my problem, but I only have three monitors. I would suggest you temporarily reduce to three monitors, and see if that fixes your issue. A workaround might be after a startup, pick up the grid you need for the fourth monitor, detach it and move to the 4th monitor.

I haven't seen it yet, but reading testing Win 11. It's suppose to make that effort much easier.
