A Sitting Game Changer

A SITTING GAME CHANGER

Unfortunately, there is usually a lot of sitting when trading options in the stock market which is not good for the human body.

I have been sitting and trading the market for many years, and my back and sciatic nerves don’t like trading as much as I do.

Trading can possibly lead to a six-and-a-half-hour daily sedentary lifestyle?

So, what’s the cure?

First of all, I try to get up and take a walk every hour, which helps, but I have found something that is a great addition to this issue. It is called an “elliptical trainer," which sits under my trading desk. It’s something I should have bought a looong time ago.

I have added the elliptical trainer to my regimen at least three to four times during the trading day (in addition to walking). My regimen is thirty minutes the first time, followed by at least two or three segments of fifteen minutes each before the end of market (and I can already tell a big difference after only one week)!

It's a relative cheap form of therapy. Mine was less than $100.

Try one. You might like it, and it doesn’t interfere with trading and might help keep you more alert in the process?!

Is anyone else using one of these?

I am all ears for solutions also. I have the same issues. So far my only solution has been to just suffer with it and get epidural shots. I'm gonna give the elliptical trainer a shot. I do all kinds of stretching to no avail. Sitting is a problem.

I have been getting SI Joint injections for years and already feel like I won't need the next one scheduled for April! I hope it works for you. Also my back feels better than it has for months!

I have started doing some exercises in an effort to keep my lower back limbered up... I did Physical Therapy a year ago and it helped... Over the winter the closed in sedentary life caught up and I had to trade from the couch on my laptop even though I have a new 43" 4K main display on my trading desk... The exercises do help and even a single 10 - 15 minute session on a yoga mat gives several days of relief... I need to get back into the routine of doing the exercises at least twice a day before kayaking season returns... That being said, I do take Meloxicam twice a day and it takes 15 - 30 minutes after I take it in the morning before I am able to ambulate with relatively little pain but still can't sit at the trading desk some days...
