I see some discussion in this forum about using Python with ThinkScript. Where can I find out more about interfacing Python with ThinkScript? Also can Python perform functions that ThinkScript cannot? In other words, can Python extend the limits of ThinkScript?

Hello everyone,

I'm exploring the possibilities of using Thinkscript, the scripting language for Thinkorswim, in conjunction with other trading platforms, specifically Interactive Brokers. My primary aim is to achieve a more universal application of Thinkscript, stepping outside the confines of Thinkorswim.

The motivation behind this inquiry stems from two main challenges I'm currently facing:

1. Execution Speed: I've noticed that order fills on TD (now Schwab) are not as rapid as I'd prefer.
2. Lack of Automation API: To the best of my knowledge, Thinkorswim doesn't offer an API for automating trading strategies, which significantly limits my trading efficiency.

Given these issues, I'm curious if there's a way to leverage Thinkscript through another programming language, like Python, to create a more integrated and automated trading setup that can work seamlessly with platforms like Interactive Brokers.

I would greatly appreciate any insights, experiences, or advice you might have on this topic. Thanks in advance for your help!

Self-directed traders had two avenues for interacting with TDA data feeds.

1. The ThinkOrSwim App
2. The Application Programming Interface (API) which allowed communication between TDA and languages such as python.

Schwab has stopped accepting applications for access to the TDA API.
The new Schwab API is thought to be available by the end of the year.
Applications for use of the Schwab API are being accepted but not yet being processed.
