Hopefully that resolves the issue... On my systems it was the window itself that was the culprit because even removing the studies and leaving the symbol blank there were still issues... Good luck...I reset the chart to default and reloaded each indicator. It was painful but seems to be running smoother. Thanks!
I was able to fix it It turned out it was some program running in the background I looked at the task scheduler and turned off 12 out of the 13 programs that I did not recognize and after that it went through the install updates and after the installation that also solved the slow loading of the option chainsI realize that this is an old thread but I have a similar problem but it's actually caused by deleting the usergui folder
Just to back up a bit for this situation
I was having problems lately where after signing into tos and type a symbol on in the trade tab it takes over 1 minute for for the option chains to load up but after entering some other symbols than the second time I enter the same symbol it's fine
So the first thing I tried was to delete the usergui but when I did that it was taking more than 10 minutes and still stuck at installing updates Than I restored the files from the recycle bin and it loaded normally but I still had the problem with the slow option chain load
I asked TD about it but they did not have a solution for this other than to reinstall TOS so I am doing that now but after installing it and trying to boot for the first time it's still stuck at installing updates
I left the pc on and went to do some shopping and about 45 minutes later it was still stuck at installing updates
How long should it normally take to finish installing the updates ?
Are there any leftover files after uninstalling that would interfere with this process ?
I have to right click on my TOS icon and click on More and then Run as Administrator. Started a week or so ago. The TOS update must have removed the admin command. It boots fine when I do the run as admin, but would just hang if I don't.Anybody else having this problem in the last 24 hours? Won't get past the installing updates screen. I re-upped ThinkorSwim without doing a complete removal and reinstall (are we absolutely 100% CERTAIN my custom studies won't be wiped??) but it didn't help.
Edit: Based on the information given on the ThinkorSwim website, the solution to fixing a stuck update screen would be to delete the USERGUI folder.
If you're running ThinkorSwim on a Windows:
If you're running ThinkorSwim on a Mac:
- Close your ThinkorSwim program
- Right-click on the ThinkorSwim icon
- Click on Properties > Open File Location
- Locate the USERGUI folder
- Delete it
- Restart ThinkorSwim
- Force quit your ThinkorSwim app
- Double click on Macintosh HD
- Applications > ThinkorSwim
- Find the USERGUI folder and drop it into the Trash icon and empty your trash can
- Restart ThinkorSwim
