Check How Many Day Trades Left in ThinkorSwim

In a recent ThinkorSwim update, the platform will now tell you how many day trades you have left. This is a nice feature to have, especially for those day trading and want to avoid being flagged as a pattern day trader.

Warning: to enable the day trade counter, you must turn off the Privacy setting from your ThinkorSwim platform. When sharing screenshots of your chart, be sure to exclude your account ID or any sensitive info.

How to enable pattern day trade counter in ThinkorSwim

1. Click on Account Info > Option Buying Power
2. Toggle the Privacy setting so that it will show your account's information

According to ThinkorSwim, this is not a brand new feature. It was once available to customers with "advanced features enabled." Now anyone can check how many day trades they can make before hitting the limit.

That has always been an option for as long as I've used TOS, it just wasn't initially enabled... But, then again, I have always had advanced features enabled... However, due to the fact that I only trade using a cash account I can ignore the counter and have since hidden it... Cash-only accounts are not subject to PDT rules like margin accounts are... I have regularly made up to a dozen trades per day...

my account over 25k but i bought stock and sold same day this could me back 2 , so i have to ignore or i have to call them i thought i could unlimited day trade ? thank you

@Vinny1993 You can just ignore that. The counter will continue to count your day trades, but you won't be marked as a pattern day trader.

Your may possibly be on a cash account and not a margin account... call TD Ameritrade and ask them.

I only trade cash and I have regularly made 8 - 10 trades per day without issue on a daily basis... PDT only pertains to margin accounts... I removed the day trade counter from my Account Info panel because it doesn't apply... But when in doubt, call client services... Better to be safe than sorry...

Good post. I used to work for TD and people getting pattern flagged caused a lotttt of fights with the call center. Always hated explaining the rules
