How well does BTD work in a bear market / down trends? What is its sweet spot and kryptonite?

Does it need to have a Bull Market / Trend to perform best?

What are your recent experiences?

The Buy The Dip ONLY provides a heads-up that a stock has dropped significantly. There is no promise that the stock has hit bottom.
No indicator should be used in isolation.
When used with most traditional non-painting strategies, it alerts you to which of your potential entries have the most room to run and the greatest profit.

How many candles does it lag in its signal? Does it post on the current candle? Does it need several candles and then prints signal on screen? What time frame does it work best in?

  1. No lag. It usually signals before or way before. As it is a "heads up" signal NOT a buy signal.
  2. BTD like almost all indicators are only accurate after the candle closes. Otherwise, you are not getting the "close" trigger.
  3. No, "does not need several candles and then prints the signal on screen"
  4. Depends on your strategy. BTD signals on higher timeframes tend to signal the potential for larger profits. The timeframe that you look for the BTD signal on has no effect on the timeframe on which you trade. As explained in the link in my post above.

May I ask what general indicators the BTD is based on? Is that described anywhere? I am not looking to replicate the recipe so much as see if it is already insync with my strategies and easier to see vs. too many indicators which I currently have up.

I'm using Volume, MACD, RSI, DMI, BB, and EMA crossover. I'd love to have a simplier indicator that does all of that all ready.

No the BTD has nothing to do with any of the indicators that you listed. The BTD signal only provides a heads up that if an equity reverses there could be a potential for significant profit.

You would need some / all of your current chart indicators in order to actually determine entry.

Are you manually drawing your Support & Resistance? Otherwise, make sure to include that also.

Post a shared chart link and I will post an image with the BTD indicator applied. Make sure to specify your preferred trading timeframe

Can I just email that image? I'll need an email to send to if so.
No...
Here is a BTD position I bought today.. Put this image side by side to your chart and see if it brings value to your strategy:
This is the BTD triggering on the 2hr chart. I bought in on the 10 min chart.

Thank you for the chart example. I only have a few more questions for now.
Does BTD send alerts or does it require babysitting the chart? Which screener / strategy is this chart representing if I may ask?

  1. You could set up a scan to signal a BTD watchlist alert. AGAIN, it would ONLY be heads up. You would still need to wait for a confirming trigger from your entry strategy, be it your MACD, RSI, or BB strategy.
  2. There are no only screeners / strategies applied to the above chart. The bubble on my chart is where I bought the stock. I used cycle, price, volume indicators to name a few to determine entry.

MerryDay, Your version of MTF BTD look different than the one posted in the premium room. May you please share your version as well?
It's the same indicator, functions the exact same. I display it a little bolder. Yes, I will post it over in the VIP forum
