Aren't complicated studies the worse kind?

How is a study good if somebody who never seen your study require a half hour seminar to understand the concept behind it?

KISS is the best in my opinion because it enables you quickly know if there's a position to be made when you're flipping through the results of a stock scanner search.

Its all in the eyes of the beholder. Everyone has there preferences. Some traders like using only technicals others fundamentals. It really just comes down to what works for you and what's your edge. Some traders like complicated studies to make them feel a sense of security when entering a position and other like a naked chart and trade purely off of price action. Every study and even price action pattern works only because a majority of people follow them. But to answer your question, it can be good, is it? I don't know back test it and see. Just because it takes a long time to learn doesn't mean its a bad study.

Since starting to use TOS (about one year) I have experimented with many "pretty" indicators, some with many, many lines of code. After all the playing with them, I settled back into using what I have used for 25 years, that is all of the Welles Wilder indicators that, when invented by Wilder, were actually calculated by hand because PCs were not around. I liked what @JeffryBatista said, and I agree. Successful trading is all about finding something that works for you. Good luck.
