Code:
#VIX MACD indicator Thinkorswim
 #Cwparker23 2/5/22
declare lower;

input VIX1 = "VIX";
def VIX  = (CLOSE(VIX1));
DEF VIXAVG = AVerage (VIX);
input fastLength = 12;
input slowLength = 26;
input MACDLength = 9;
input averageType = AverageType.EXPONENTIAL;
input showBreakoutSignals = no;

plot Value = MovingAverage(averageType, VIX, fastLength) - MovingAverage(averageType, VIX, slowLength);
plot Avg = MovingAverage(averageType, Value, MACDLength);

plot Diff = (Avg - Value);

UpSignal.SetDefaultColor(Color.UPTICK);

UPDATE this code is for imp volatility. The histogram never goes past zero

Code:
declare lower;

def ImpVol = IMP_VOLATILITY();
input fastLength = 12;
input slowLength = 26;
input MACDLength = 9;
input averageType = AverageType.EXPONENTIAL;
input showBreakoutSignals = no;

plot Value = MovingAverage(averageType, ImpVol, slowLength) - MovingAverage(averageType, ImpVol, fastLength) ;
plot Avg = MovingAverage(averageType, Value, MACDLength);

DEF DiffBULL = IF (Value - Avg) > 0 THEN (Value - Avg)  ELSE DOuble.NaN ;
plot Diff = DiffBULL;

DEF DiffBEAR = IF (Avg - Value) > 0 THEN (Avg - Value)  ELSE DOuble.NaN ;
plot Diff2 = DiffBEAR;

plot ZeroLine = 0;

plot UpSignal = if Diff crosses above ZeroLine then ZeroLine else Double.NaN;
plot DownSignal = if Diff crosses below ZeroLine then ZeroLine else Double.NaN;

UpSignal.SetHiding(!showBreakoutSignals);
DownSignal.SetHiding(!showBreakoutSignals);

Value.SetDefaultColor(GetColor(1));
Avg.SetDefaultColor(GetColor(8));
Diff.SetDefaultColor(GetColor(5));
Diff.SetPaintingStrategy(PaintingStrategy.HISTOGRAM);
Diff2.SetPaintingStrategy(PaintingStrategy.HISTOGRAM);
Diff.SetLineWeight(3);
Diff.DefineColor("Positive and Up", Color.WHITE);
Diff.DefineColor("Positive and Down", Color.BLUE);
Diff2.DefineColor("Negative and Down", Color.RED);
Diff2.DefineColor("Negative and Up", Color.PINK);
Diff.AssignValueColor(if Diff >= 0 AND  Diff > Diff[1] then Diff.color("Positive and Up") else Diff.color("Positive and Down"));

ZeroLine.SetDefaultColor(GetColor(0));
UpSignal.SetDefaultColor(Color.UPTICK);
UpSignal.SetPaintingStrategy(PaintingStrategy.ARROW_UP);
DownSignal.SetDefaultColor(Color.DOWNTICK);
DownSignal.SetPaintingStrategy(PaintingStrategy.ARROW_DOWN);

Diff2.AssignValueColor(if Diff2 >= 0 AND  Diff2 > Diff2[1] then Diff2.color("Negative and Down") else Diff2.color("Negative and Up"));

CP - I think this is clever to make the histogram inverted and thus track with the stock direction while you can still see the VIX or ImpVolty plotted against a control. Well done. I like the update version but is it possible to get the negative histograms (red and pink) to plot under the zero line like the VIX version does. Also I do not think the arrows are working in the update but work just fine in the original version with the VIX.
