John Ehlers has created 100 indicators. They have various standard lengths.

You will find that many oscillators have a standard length of 14 (some modify to a short length of 8)
You will find range/band/channel indicators require significant lookback of 60, 120, 200 etc...
Modifying length to provide meaningful analysis for the instrument and the timeframe that you are trading on, is an important aspect of technical charting.

Use Interpolation to find the perfect length.
Set chart with an extreme high lookback. View the effect.
Set chart with an extreme low lookback. View the effect.
Keep adjusting your high & low lengths toward the middle, until you find your sweet spot, where the indicator is statistically significant to your strategy.
