plot value based on previous calculation of a DEFined value

Is it possible to plot the a value based on the previous calculation of a DEF calculation?
in the following example I am using the previous definition of a calculated SMA to make a comparison and
create a new plot. But it doesn't work.
If so I would appreciate an example of how to do it.

input price = close;
input length = 9;

DEF SMA = Average(price[-displace], length);

Plot smadif = If SMA[5] < SMA[4] and SMA[4] < SMA[3]
and SMA[3] < SMA[2] and SMA[2] < SMA[1] and
and SMA > SMA[1]
Then 1 ELSE Double.NAN;

you stated:
"am using the previous definition of a calculated SMA to make a comparison and
create a new plot."

so you want to get the value of the previous SMA and make what comparison?

saying 'it doesn't work' is the most useless statement ever uttered by a human.

think about and tell us what you wanted to see.
tell us what actually happened.
many times, if someone does this, they will get an idea.

.. that code doesn't have any plot shapes defined, so it will try to draw a line.
.. to plot a line, there needs to be 2 consecutive bars with valid plot values.
.. that formula will not be true for 2 consecutive bars.
.. no line will be plotted

for an experiment,
add,
declare lower;

change the last parameter in plot formula , from double.nan to 0.

ps , don't post partial code, post the whole thing.
