How to use the modulus function %

Will someone help me understand how to use the modulus function % in dealing with remainders. I need to use it in calculating time such as hours and minutes and calculating degrees and seconds for angles. In Excel I use the MOD function, but it appears that ThinkScript handles % in a much different way. Providing some examples will be helpful.

input mod_number = 10;
