Extend Point of Control Line (Volume Profile) For ThinkOrSwim

Hi,

I need some help redoing the VolumeProfile Indictor that comes with ThinkorSwim. Here's my ask:

I want to present the VolumeProfile indicator on a chart such that the POC of control line extends all the way to the right axis. Here's a pic to demonstrate.

The first image shows a chart that displays the daily Volume Profile with the blue line being the POC. In the second image, I manually drew a line that extends the POC line to the right with the price displayed at the end. Can someone help me replicate this with the existing VolumeProfile indicator that comes with ThinkOrSwim? I'm not very savvy with ThinkOrSwim script. Greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks again for checking the issue I was having and not understanding. I was having difficulty posting a screenshot of the issue; still not quite sure how to do that. Also, thanks for taking your time to investigate, ID the problem area, and providing a work-around. I am beginning to write code but at the moment I'm studying code and just modifying in some way....this slowly leads to better understanding for me.
 
Hey @SleepyZ. v good script! wondering if you ever encountered a bug with it not doing extensions for a current day? seems completely random like some days it'll plot and others it won't

Hey @SleepyZ. v good script! wondering if you ever encountered a bug with it not doing extensions for a current day? seems completely random like some days it'll plot and others it won't

As this script has 90 iterations, it is likely not reliable on a chart with 90 days.

The following seems to work better.

The script has 30 iterations of the TPO POC from https://usethinkscript.com/threads/extend-point-of-control-line-volume-profile.10893/post-102451 . It has an input start to put the number for the next iteration to start (eg: 31, 61, ...).

I put 3 copies of the following on a 90 day chart with start settings of 0, 31, and 61. Performance and accuracy seems better than 1 version with 90 iterations, See the image below.

As this script has 90 iterations, it is likely not reliable on a chart with 90 days.

The following seems to work better.

The script has 30 iterations of the TPO POC from https://usethinkscript.com/threads/extend-point-of-control-line-volume-profile.10893/post-102451 . It has an input start to put the number for the next iteration to start (eg: 31, 61, ...).

I put 3 copies of the following on a 90 day chart with start settings of 0, 31, and 61. Performance and accuracy seems better than 1 version with 90 iterations, See the image below.

Honestly I can't get this TPO one to plot at all unless changing start to 0 but even then the extension seems to only work for current poc and then cuts to next one.

These scripts are meant to be used on mutliple days, with the Volume Profile set to DAY. Your original request used a 90D, 1hr chart. It just needs the 3 scripts and VolumeProffile left to its' default setting of DAY.

Your settings on the 1st image was TODAY, 1m with what looks like 1hr VolumeProfile. The 2nd was 2D, 1m with a 1hr VolumeProfile. Neither will work properly.

See if that helps

I know it isn't how you designed the script it's just odd that the 1hr VPOC works consistently Mon, Tue, Wed, then stops working Thurs, Fri every week. A person mentioned to me that TOS doesn't have the proper data structures to store untested POCs

That is not the script I posted with a recommendation to use. Nonetheless it looks like they stopped because they were touched. It also stops if there are not enough iterations to complete the loop being used to create the lines. The new script does not use that loop logic

I am not sure whether you mean the chart is set at 30m or the volumeprofile is set to a 30m timeframe. This indicator is meant to be on a volumeprofile with a DAY timeframe.

I was able to uncheck "Fit Studies" on the y-axis scale drop down. But it's odd that if I select that box... the script plots lines in the value area, and vPOC as expected, but they are crammed up at the top and there are yellow/red lines plotted at 0.

For almost any study to display properly, I have found over the year's that all the check boxes shown in the image must be unchecked.

Ps: Virgin Point of Control was how was taught to name them. Not sure if there's another name or not.

you can uncheck Show Plot in all of the vh/vl in Edit Studies. or comment them out in the script. the v1 - v10 are the POCs. if they are virgin or naked, the line would extend.

Can anyone help to show the prior days Value area on todays chart?

This will show the VAH, POC and VAL as lines on the chart. You can choose which day and whether to limit the display to today only.

I find that other Volume profile indicators produce different POC values. Some align while some dont, another indicator not at all.
Is there a preference to how POC is calculated, what time frame.. etc. ? Thanks
