Determining prior bar Close

I have this line in a study. Trying to determine when the current bar has closed above or below the prior bar. The aggregation function will only return day. Any help would be appreciated. Unfortunately scripting is not my strong suit and I can't find any examples of putting prior close value in a variable. This alerts when there is a new bar but can't seem to determine the direction.

Alert(close(-1) < close(), "Bar Down!", Alert.bar, Sound.Chimes);

hello and welcome

sorry, i don't understand your post,
you mention aggregation, but don't list any code using it. so no idea how it fits into the issue.

to read data in the past, use a positive offset number,
to read data in the future, use a negative offset number,

the current bar close is > prior bar close
def x = if close > close[1] then 1 else 0;
close[1] is the previous bar

look at the manual, this section talks about reading historical data
